Catherine Day

Deputy Director

Catherine is a British Civil Servant currently serving in the Cabinet Office at the UK government’s Joint Data and Analysis Centre. Dedicated to improving government, its impact and outcomes, she has transformed how governments approach opportunities and challenges to drive impact, including through extensive work on international and national strategy and culture. She has served five of the last seven prime ministers in strategy-related roles across government, providing leadership on the UK Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy, instigating a programme to improve national security culture, serving as Senior Policy Advisor on global conflict, working on the frontlines in Iraq and Afghanistan and establishing the UK’s Stabilisation Unit. She has also worked in the European Commission and UK Parliament and held an attachment to the Royal College of Defence Studies.


With an academic background in anthropology, Catherine is currently a Visiting Fellow at King’s College London pursuing her interest in how to leverage national and institutional culture for strategic advantage. Excited by public service and the power of collaboration, Catherine dedicates significant time to projects that create shared, national endeavour around critical strategic missions and convenes a cross-government Participatory Methods Forum to drive this.


Married with two daughters, Catherine speaks several languages, holds private pilot's and motorcycle licences and has represented her country and the Territorial Army in full-bore target rifle shooting. A passionate runner and keen artist, she takes every opportunity to run, sculpt and paint.
